reuse and reimagine
Reuse & Reimagine is an exploration of less traditional art materials and approaches, including collaging, upcycling everyday items, repurposing found objects, and more.
Emphasis will be on learning through experimentation and play. In the classroom, students will be guided through instructor demos and group discussions, with a majority of our time spent creating, building, making, and reimagining art.
We’ll delve into the open-ended questions of “what is art?” and “what makes someone an artist?” Some of our time will be dedicated to field trips and exploring our surrounding environments. We’ll touch on art movements like street art, earthworks, and found art.
Newly acquired knowledge will allow students the opportunity to continue projects and themes at home if desired, but assigned homework will be less project-based and more about noticing things and pondering questions in a new and different way.
Learning objectives include:
-experiencing new art materials and forms through experimenting and art-making
-introducing new ways of seeing objects and materials
-encouraging creative problem solving
-instructor-led critiques will help students learn to talk about art as a group
-learning about art movements and artists that inspire our projects
About the Instructor:
Hannah Frick is a Minneapolis-based artist who enjoys utilizing reused and repurposed materials. CATS ARE READY is her art practice where she creates custom collaged pet portrait commissions as well as offers workshops for others to create their own unique collages. Each collage is composed of interesting colors, shapes, lines, and patterns cut and torn from the pages of discarded magazines.
Hannah graduated from the College of Visual Arts with a BFA in painting. She is passionate about building and strengthening communities through art.
